yeah for Benadryl, kind of

Lance has had a cold for two weeks now, with a really yucky nose for over a week. I am so ready for him to be well and no more yucky nose, no more coughing, and no more gagging until throwing up. Yesterday he threw up a little at 4 am and then twice when I was trying to clean at my mom’s. I called the doctor because I was really beginning to get worried about my little man, he wasn’t eating much and he was throwing up every now and then what little he did eat. The doctor called me back and told me not to be to concerned as long as he was having a wet diaper every 8-10 hours which he was and that throwing up was just one way he was getting rid of the mucus and protecting his lungs. He did say that I could give him a small amount of Benadryl and though I do not like to give Lance any kind of medicine the little guy needed some kind of relief. I went to the store yesterday and picked some up. We gave him some right before bedtime because we figured it would make him really sleepy and he would sleep all night long. I wish. He was up every 3 hours! It was like he was a newborn again, except he was only eating/awake for 10-15 minutes as opposed to a newborn who is up 25-45 minutes at a time. It was rough, but Lance did have a clear nose, he was able to consume as much milk as my poor body could make for him and he kept everything down since he wasn’t coughing or trying to clear his nose. Though we only gave him one dose at 8 last night his nose stayed pretty good until 11 this morning and even that isn’t as bad as it has been. He was crying in the car on the way back from our morning outing so that started the yucky nose back, but he wasn’t too bad. We gave him a little more at 11 and as a result he only napped for half an hour, I actually don’t know if the medicine is to blame since I had tried to get some vacuuming done, but I hope he will go down for a little bit since I am quite sleepy myself.
Today most of the school systems are out due to the threat of snow and so far there hasn’t been any substantial snow. My mom had to go to school today and she laughed that her school system was the only one in the area that was open. They were originally calling for 2-4 inches of snow, but I am sure by now they have cut that down, I was trying to not get my hopes up, I really want it to snow!
Though I say this everyday, I really can’t believe how Lance getting older and growing up before my eyes. He isn’t my wee little baby anymore, but he sure is a lot of fun and into everything. He loves to pull up on everything, crawl around the house, dance to any kind of music, play with daddy bike, and go to his “happy place” i.e. my knitting basket (he pulls out all of the yarn and pulls it through his hands and mouth, he gets so excited when he gets into it, it is very cute.)

one cold down, a million more to go

I think we are finally on the mend, this cold thing has not been fun. Poor Lance has barely been able to eat and thanks to his great gag reflex several meals took a return course. The yucky nose wasn’t as yucky today and he have kept down everything and no gagging since 6:30 am Sunday. Last night was the first time in almost a week that he ate something, he was only nursing. Fortunately during this whole cold he slept pretty good at night, he just didn’t eat well which led to a not good night for mommy. I thought my right side was going to explode Saturday night when he had gone 12 hours without eating from it, he was doing a one side every 4-6 hours and I didn’t sleep very comfortably. So for the first time in a week things looked better for the little one and he is in a much better mood.
Lance’s favorite thing right now is yarn. He loves to crawl over to my knitting basket and pull out everything. Today when I was changing out laundry he was playing with some yarn for Amy’s scarf, I wonder if he will be a knitter one day.

no more mucus, please

Poor Lance, I wish he could get over this cold. Last night we were playing in the living room and he spit up/ threw up on me, gross! The kid has way to much mucus in his nose and going down the back of his throat! He is also very gassy from sucking in so much air while trying to eat. The worst though was last night when I fed him and then he threw it all back up on me, I was covered. Jeff tried to help, but it kind of irritated me because he didn’t really help. Lance had just eaten and I wanted him to give him some gas drops in hopes of helping his belly, well he gagged on the drops and up came all the milk he drank. So here I am covered in spit up and Jeff jumps up grabs a roll of paper towels. All I wanted him to do was grab the baby, but he gets up and gets paper towels and then wipes off the baby. Here I was covered in milk and he doesn’t even take the baby from me immediately!! He finally takes the baby, and I go up and change clothes. I come back down and hold Lance until he is ready to eat some more. At this point I am dreading what feeding him and what the night may hold. Praise God, he slept really well, only got up once to feed and only has kept all milk down. This cold is very upsetting because he is not feeling well and the fact that it will continue to happen, this is just the beginning. It makes me wonder, why did God make viruses? What is their purpose? Do they do anything good? Will we ever be able to defeat them?
On a positive note, Grandma babysat for a few hours last night so we were able to go hang out with some people without Lance, it was nice to be away for a bit. Well I can’t waste all of nap time on the computer, must go be productive.

i hate postnasal drip

and major changes in weather or cold, which either has left me feeling horrible. Yesterday my throat hurt so bad and my head was so heavy. Today my throat is a lot better and my head not so cloudy. I can’t believe how well I am getting through the day despite the fact that I could not get to sleep last night, it was horrible! I tossed and turned and couldn’t get to sleep. I didn’t really get to sleep until 2 am and I started trying at 9! I feel a lot better today and I hope that I will feel even better tomorrow now that the cold front has come through and it is no longer 70 degrees outside. It isn’t the 70 degrees that is the problem just the change from 70 to a low of 20 tonight. Lance has also been a little off the last couple of days so I hope we are both on the mend. I really hate being sick and it is so hard being sick with a little guy because I can’t just lay in bed or on the couch all day, I have to take care of him. Well Lance is asleep right now and I should really use this time to pick up or lay down, I hope that I am feeling better. My head especially my ears are stuffed up, but my nose isn’t- kind of weird. Must go be productive!
